The Great Chicken Sandwich Debate:
I Ate Popeyes; Chick-Fil-A Where Are You?
In recent weeks and months it seems Popeyes used social media to create a buzz about their newly released chicken sandwich. Taking jabs at Chik-Fil-A and teasing about being open on Sunday and such. Generally going after the king of the market isn't always the best strategy, but in this case, it gained traction and lead to Popeyes selling out of the sandwiches and lines longer than you can imagine.

On Wednesday I decided to join the fray. As I was deciding where to eat and who to feature, I thought why not decide for myself which chicken sandwich is better. So, I got in my SUV and drove to the Popeyes on 412 West. I ordered the regular chicken sandwich, hold the pickles, fries and a drink. The fries were good as usual and the drink was fine. The real question was, how good is the sandwich. I thought it was excellent. The bun was very soft, the piece of chicken was enormous and I am a fan of mayo so I loved the amount they used. If you're not a mayo person you may ask for that to be left off. Its slathered on there pretty heavy. The folks at the drive thru were nice, but my order did have a mistake, though they quickly corrected it when I went back in.

Then I went in search of its competitor. The undisputed king of chicken sandwiches the Chik-Fil-A Sandwich. I drove as far East as Butterfield Coach. I searched to the North all the way to Wagon Wheel and to the West as far as Jones Road. Lastly, I looked South all the way to Main Street in Johnson. I could see the sign but couldn't get a Chik-Fil-A sandwich in Springdale.

How could it be that in a town nearing 90,000 people that home to the world's largest poultry producer doesn't have a single Chik-Fil-A? Tyson Foods produces 192 million pounds of ready to cook chicken a week and yet still no delicious golden fried Chik-Fil-A sandwich to be found? Surely this can't be the case. In Benton County Rogers has 3 locations and Bentonville has 2. Our neighbor to the South has 4 such chicken joints. One on MLK, one on campus, one in the Northwest Arkansas Mall and one just at our fingertips in Fayetteville on North College. Yet, the poultry capitol of the world still sits at ZERO.

I couldn't get my succulent Chik-Fil-A sandwich and those delicious golden-brown waffle fries. So, I have to declare that in Springdale, and by default, Popeyes is the winner of the Great Chicken Sandwich Debate. I'd love to be able to grade them both, but until we have a Chik-Fil-A in town that is not a possibility. It saddens me because the service is always paramount and I've always left with a "Have A Blessed Day", but it is time Springdale, Arkansas has a location of their own and our tax dollars quit going to fund things in other cities from all the delicious chicken sandwiches we have purchased throughout the years. Here's looking at you Atlanta...
