If it seems as if I applaud the accomplishments of the Springdale
economy a lot, it's because I do. But that isn't just a hat tip to the
businesses and the entrepreneurs here in Springdale. It is a thank you
to the people of this town as well. I have long been a believer in the
buying power of Springdale. The pandemic may have taken much from
us, but what it has given us is a clear view of what our local economy
can be when Springdale residents stay in town to spend their money.
The month of September sales tax numbers, collected in July, show
that the $1.54 million we collected is the best ever for this month and
over a 16% increase for this month year over year. How is that
possible? So many places are still on restricted capacity and for some
residents their concern for the virus is still playing a major role in their
purchasing habits and movements. People are staying closer to home
and with Springdale poised to top 85,000 people when the 2020
Census is released there is a lot of money staying in the pockets of
Springdale business owners.
For the year Springdale is up over 9% and has not had a single month
year to date that was worse than last year. The city sales tax collections
are poised to set a record even in the face of all the turmoil this year.
Springdale is in a season of tremendous growth. Just in the last week I
have heard of 3 new food establishments who are coming or are
looking at coming to Springdale. Please continue to shop local, spend
your money here and support you quality of life with each purchase you
make.
