Walton Backed Runway Group Moving
Forward with Big Project
Many residents and business owners got the news they'd been wanting
to hear for years on Tuesday night. The Runway Group, a Walton
family interest, gained unanimous approval at the Planning Commission
to begin work on their first big project outside of Bentonville. The
project will be located on the property where the old Ryan's building
still stands and the property where the San Jose Manor building used
to stand including Bella's.
The project represents one of the first of what many hope will be a total
rebirth of Downtown Springdale. The plans include a 4-story, 69,000
square foot building with locations for two restaurants, multiple
commercial spaces, candle pin bowling and a community space called
The Travelling Public. The plans may change, but currently include
primarily 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. What is candle pin bowling you
ask? Candlepin bowling is a variation of bowling that is played primarily
in the Canadian Maritime provinces and the New England states of the
United States. It is played with a handheld-sized ball and tall, narrow
pins that resemble candles, hence the name.
This, along with the apartments down by the airport and the remodeling
of the Watson's building by James + James with condos upstairs is the
beginning of what is about to be an exciting run of announcements for
Downtown Springdale.
