Dr. Rollins Receives a Raise,
Extension Voted Down
Jim Rollins has been the Superintendent of Springdale Public Schools
since 1982. At that time the city of Springdale had a population of just
over 25,000 people. As we approach the 2020 Census it is estimated
that Springdale will reach upwards of nearly 90,000 people and serve
over 22,000 students. The Springdale School District is the largest in
the state and Har-Ber and Springdale are the 3rd and 4th largest high
schools respectively.
On Tuesday the School Board voted, without dissent, to give Jim
Rollins a raise from $226,493 to $243,000. This constitutes a raise of
just over 7% and makes Dr. Rollins the highest paid Superintendent in
Arkansas. In other business the board decided not to extend Dr.
Rollins contract an additional year, a formality normally executed this
time of year. As such, Dr. Rollins current contract will expire at the end
of the 2021 calendar year.
Regardless of what direction the district goes we as a city certainly owe
Dr. Rollins a great debt of gratitude for the exceptional work he has
done throughout the decades of service to the children of the
Springdale School District. Over a span of nearly 40 years we have
seen the district grow and change dramatically, but Dr. Rollins has
never wavered from his belief that each child deserves the best
education and opportunity at life that we can possibly provide for them.
