How You Can Help Our Senior
Citizens In This Time
While the Coronavirus has brought much of our country to a standstill it
has had a particularly overwhelming effect on one segment of our
population. Senior citizens are much likelier to not only contract the
virus than their younger counterparts, but the mortality rate for those 70
and older is 11 times that of people from ages 10-69. So how can we
help protect those that have cared for us and given so much to our
community throughout their lifetime?
I recently spoke with Lori Proud, Director of the Springdale Senior
Center, about just how we could help. There are several ways this can
be done. The Senior Center provides the Meals On Wheels program
which delivers a meal to these seniors, many of whom are homebound
permanently, to ensure they receive proper nutrition throughout the
week. It takes just $5.00 to provide a meal for one of our senior
citizens at their home. For many this is their only food source and is
essential to their health and well-being. The Senior Center is also
facing lost revenue from seniors who visit the center throughout the
week while they are closed.
You can donate money to the Senior Center by sending it to their
Paypal account at: sdaleseniorcenter@sbcglobal.net or mailing it to
203 Park Street, Springdale AR, 72764.
You may also drop off essential items such as food, hygiene and
cleaning supplies at 203 Park Street as well. Thank you so much for
considering our seniors who may not be able to get out or able to beat
the rush to find the essential items they need at this time.
